I bougth a Nikon D5000 at a Vobis shop on 23.07.2009. Basically everything was working fine, except for an obvious factory fault (widely described and well known). After I found out abot my camera beingfaulty I rang up the Polish Nikon Service. I was told I had to send it at my own expense, which made me angry as just a week before I received a Canon from their service (no cost, 2 weeks of waiting) However, the lady at the service said it wasn't a good idea to send my camera to them because they wouldn't fix it within a month. So I didn't send it, it was summer holiday so the camera was used. By the end of August the genuine battery died on me. Then it turned out it wasn't under warranty. A serviceman at Vobis said that it was onle 2 months old and, having considered it's cost, he'd send it to the Nikon Service. Two weeks later he rang me back apologising and said that the Nikon Service requested the original copy of European Warranty card. I thought that they might replace it.
Unfortunately, 3 weeks later a guy from Vobis rang me and informed that the Nikon Service was sending the faulty battery back and, in addition to that, they lost the Warranty Card! I won't quote what the guy said about the service, as the censors wouldn't let that through. He also informed me that a Law Department of Vobis was going to take over this case.
It is a pain that there is no warranty for the battery worth 150PLN in a camera worth 3.000PLN, even for 3 months. Nikon will not service a battery once the customer left the counter, so be carefull. Non-genuine batteries are three times cheaper and have one year warranty.
On top of that, Nikon Service claimed that the fault might have been caused by the factory fault (so they admitt that the factory fault might be damaging accesorries and it wouldn't be repaired under warranty). Petryfying, isn't it? I reckon that the fault has nothing to do with the camera body- I have other batteries and they work just fine.
It is really mad that it took over a month, that there is such a mess with all the paperwork. Re-dial function in one's phone becomes really usefull.
When I get any information on how are VOBIS lawyers doing with Nikon Service, I will not hesitate to keep You informed.
